• BRIEF DESCRIPTION |
The Eliseevskiy store is a Moscow institution. It has been in operation since 1890 and was recently renovated to restore it to its past glories. The Empire-style interior is stunning - more reminiscent of a palace than a grocery store. There are large mirrors, gold moldings on the ceiling, crystal chandeliers, and mahogany furnishings. Located in central Moscow, the store attracts hordes of tourists, but also those who do their daily shopping there, much as prominent Muscovites have done for the last century. The grocery store has a large assortment, including fresh fruit and veg, meats, cheeses, and pre-prepared foods like rabbit and sturgeon shashlik. The bakery turns out freshly-baked and delicious breads, pies, cakes, and exclusive handmade chocolates. The deli features items like Moscow-style borscht, salted salmon, baked carp, and marinated mushrooms. There is also a department selling Russian souvenirs. Prices are not cheap, but not much higher than at other central Moscow locations.
