Not just a store, but a "cultural centre" providing excursions and educational programs to introduce wider audiences to the masterpieces of Russian national arts and crafts. Russian Gift was opened in 2007 by the Moscow Municipal Administration to support traditional Russian crafts of all types. On sale are more than 20 000 genuine certified articles of Russian handicrafts from all over the country, including matryoshkas (nesting dolls), traditional wooden toys, painted wooden spoons and bowls, lacquered miniatures, porcelain, filigree silver, samovars, amber jewellery, and traditional clothing. The aim is to provide customers with the best and most authentic work of artisans from all over Russia. The centre also has a smaller outlet in GUM on Red Square.
