• BRIEF DESCRIPTION |
Formerly a gallery, M'ars is now a Centre of Contemporary Arts with two stories consisting of ten large and open exhibition halls, as well as a club-restaurant and cafe. M'ars was founded, in 1988, by artists who were banned during the Soviet era, and has not shied away from exhibiting art that sends a message or addresses topics that are pertinent to the social, cultural, and political climate both internationally and in Russia today. The centre hosts regular exhibitions of Russian and foreign artists, including video art, installations, and photography. M'ars Centre of Contemporary Arts is also notable for its vast and intriguing permanent collection, much of which is in storage but-can be viewed on request. The centre regularly hosts auctions, too.
